2009 - Present: EngineerRe is a digital management consulting company. We examine businesses from their web presence in and determine various technological and management issues. From there we can match solutions and provide execution assistance.
2009: I managed Phil for a little while. I helped him throw a showand we sold a bunch of his work. He has gotten someinterestingpressand continues to amaze.
Video Art Software Venture
2008-2009: We obtained the rights to sell an interesting piece of software that was good but not quite up to par. We realized that being an ISV going after a niche market you need to have absolute control over product. We got stuck in a chicken and egg scenario of not being able to sell it without an overhaul, but not being able to afford one without selling it - We imagined in an up market we might have had a better chance to sell it before it was built but the niche is resistant to change and at the time no one was having any of it.
Curating UGC Startup
2007-2008: I spent a few months wireframing and imagining what the perfect product might look like. Only when I started to hack something together did I realize that my approach might be novel but it was really just a me-too in a commoditized space. I went against all the advice I thought I knew regarding internet startups (build first ask questions later) and paid dearly with my time.
Zero Footprint Water
2008: Carbon offsets meets bottled water. I thought this was a fun idea, we never got passed the business plan stage because we realized: What in the world do we know about desalination? Or the intricacies of water bottle supply chains and procurement for that matter. Lack of domain expertise is a major barrier, even more so in capital intensive businesses.
UK Excuse
2007: We were going to build a zine, manage bands and build a label. One of said bands came to the states and played MisshapesandRuff Clubback to back. Co-founder disappeared before we had enough content to launch our first issue sadly.
Co-working Loft for Entrepreneurs
2006: I briefly helped look for funding and searched for space. It was to be a cross betweeni/o venturesand SoHo House.
